September 1861... an Artillery unit formed out of Lone Rock, Wisconsin. They were answering a call of their country to fight in what we now call the Civil War. As a Wisconsin-based artillery unit we have chosen to represent the 6th Battery and honor the history of the unit.

Colonel Hans Christian Heg
Honoring Colonel Heg of the 15th Wisconsin Infantry. The 6th Wisconsin Battery shared in their 1st Battle together with the 15th at the Battle of Island #10. Heg was a Norwegian Immigrant and an anti-slavery activist. Born 1829, Heg was mortally wounded Sep. 18 1863 in the Battle of Chickamauga and died Sep. 20 1863. We honor this Soldier for his brave service to Wisconsin.
