Jenkin Lloyd Jones 1843-1918 |
Jenkin Lloyd Jones joined the 6th Wisconsin Light Artillery in August 1862 after turning 18. He was sent with 14 other soldiers, most were from the Spring Green area, to replenish the loss of soldiers in the unit . Also note that his sister Anna was the mother of Frank Lloyd Wright.
He was fondly referred to as Jenk Jones. Jenk kept a diary of the unit from his arrival in 1862 to going home July 1865. The reader can learn many details of the unit from weather, marches, battles, and much more. There is a link to his diary on the top of this blog. It is An Artilleryman's Diary. It can also be purchased at on-line stores. Jenk writes with a deep understanding of how the human mind works. Jenk also became an author of many books after becoming a Minister of the Unitarian Church and one of the largest congregations in Chicago. Enjoy reading his diary !
